At the feet of the relics and image of María Rivas López, missionary of the Daughters of the Good Shepherd, the residents of Coracora (Ayacucho), her hometown, celebrated their blessed, known as “Aguchita,” on the first anniversary of her beatification. She was a martyr of our Peruvian Amazon.
In the month of missions, Radio María highlighted the testimony of this religious sister who lived her life as a gift from God, always giving the best of herself to others. The Good Shepherd missionary chose to spend her life in the Peruvian jungle, in the town of La Florida, district of Perené, and province of Chanchamayo.
This was announced by Monsignor Salvador Piñeiro García-Calderón, Archbishop of Ayacucho, during an interview on Radio María. “The great educator in faith and promoter of social good” is an example to follow, he emphasized.

One Year After Her Beatification: Youth Gather at Salesian Coliseum
Following the Mass celebrated at the cathedral in the city of Huamanga under the theme “Walking with Aguchita,” the Archbishop of Ayacucho highlighted the presence of the religious from CONFER who visited the relics of the “Daughter of the Andes.”
Additionally, a study session was held with the youth from the center and south, who received the sacrament of confirmation.
“She is an instrument of Peace,” stated Monsignor. Indeed, after being murdered by Shining Path on September 26, 1990, Aguchita’s life is a symbol of love and dedication. Her martyrdom was lived in this part of the Amazon, teaching how to give one’s life. Thus, death found her ready, while she was preparing a treat for the children she accompanied in the home located in this town.
